Karl Tunberg, Designated Broker

Karl A. Tunberg garners great joy from his work as the Designated Broker of Midland Real Estate Alliance. Listing, selling, negotiating, and brokering real estate transactions is a richly rewarding career for the valley executive.

Growing up in a large family with a military father who later became a University professor kept the Tunberg family moving.  By 14, Tunberg had moved 15 times, living in cities throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Eventually, his family returned to his birthplace, Santa Barbara, California.  Tunberg spent his high school years at Midland School, a college preparatory boarding school located in Los Olivos, CA.  Moving frequently instilled in Tunberg a strong sense of what it means to have a home and community.

After graduating high school, Tunberg attended the University of California at Los Angeles, later completing his education at Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Real Estate.  He continued his education working on his MBA at the University of Phoenix.  Tunberg’s career began in the commercial, residential and new construction real estate industry. His motivation to succeed, his ability to manage and his desire to continually enhance his skill set quickly moved him into executive positions.  Having served as a vice president of sales and marketing for a local homebuilder, vice president for a national homebuilder and owner of a residential and commercial construction company; Tunberg has been recognized as an industry leader and has received many awards including a “Life Achievement Award” for reaching sales over $52,000,000.

Interested in new challenges Tunberg looked to refocus his career in the residential re-sale sector. “I went back to the foundation of what I love to do, build long-lasting relationships with my clients.  Whether they are looking to sell their existing property or move into their next home, I enjoy providing solutions and opportunities to people” states Tunberg. “I also have 4 growing kids, a wife and an interest in serving my community so I looked for a career which provides me with an opportunity to be with my family and be a community leader.”  As a spirited entrepreneur, starting Midland Real Estate Alliance was a natural choice for Tunberg, “I enjoy building a company from scratch while incorporating my business philosophies” Tunberg continues, “my commitment to servicing my client’s interests while approaching each transaction with integrity makes my company successful and clients value me a trusted Broker.”

Tunberg values the opportunity and importance of being an active contributor to his community.  He serves as a board member for Girl’s on the Run, a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.  Tunberg has also recently been appointed to the President’s Club for the Tempe YMCA, a small group of community activists raising funds for the advancement of community programs through YMCA.  Additionally, Tunberg serves as a member on HOA boards and Architectural Design Committees throughout the valley.  He has taught real estate course for the Arizona School of Real Estate.  He has directed, participated in and untaken several fundraising and charity efforts over the years including and benefiting the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer, Southwest Community Network, Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), the Melonhead Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and several other worthy organizations and causes.  He enjoys coaching youth sports and has served as the head coach for several east valley Lacrosse clubs.

Having been a student athlete, Tunberg has maintained his passion for sports through participating in 7 Ironman competitions, plus endurance events and marathons across the country and abroad.  His favorite event is Tempe Ironman which he has completed 4 times and set a PR of 10:44 in 2009.  “I have a core group of training partners and this is the one event we all get to compete in together, the camaraderie and spirited competition keeps us all going. Plus, I love hearing the cheers from friends and family throughout the day and having my wife and kids at the finish line, it’s priceless” Tunberg adds; “My goal is to one day qualify for Kona, but for now I’m looking forward to Europe 2011.”
